The Betty Codona WBBL 2023 Trophy got under way this weekend in Essex featuring 16 teams including our senior WBBL team. We were the last tie to play on a busy cup weekend against Ipswich Basketball.
The team got off to a lightening quick start and sailed to a 9 – 0 lead within the first one and a half minutes of the first quarter. Ipswich played well but were unable to match the intensity and experience of the WBBL team. By the end of the 3rd quarter we had scored 102 points and eventually came away with a 137 – 72 win. The team now move into the quarter finals to face Manchester Mystics in a few weeks time.
Star performer was Helen Naylor who has now become the 2nd all time player to play the most games in the WBBL. Congratulations. She scored 23 points, 9 rebounds and 8 assists with Karly, Lena, Chloe and Georgia also putting up some good numbers (below).
Karly Murphy with 16 PTS / 20 REB / 7 AST
Lena Niang 20 PTS / 5 REB / 2 AST
Chloe Wanink 17 PTS / 5 REB / 7 AST
Georgia Gayle 16PTS /5 REB / 2 AST
