A huge exciting weekend of games for our Hatters teams. The WBBL team made the long journey to Cardiff and after a slow start they were behind by 11 points at the end of the first quarter. However, the second was the complete opposite.
At the start of the second quarter the Hatters went on a 9-0 run, before taking the lead (40-42). Over the course of four minutes, the WBBL team went on an incredible 17-4 run to turn the game on its head and lead by 2 points at the half way point (48-50). The third quarter saw the Hatters once again pull away to a double digit lead but Cardiff managed to peg them back to 70 -73 by the end of the quarter.
A 7-0 run to start the fourth, saw the WBBL team regain that double-digit cushion and calm any nerves after seeing their 16-point lead disappear at the end of the third. With just five minutes left until the final buzzer, Cardiff gave it one last push to try and close the gap, going on a 6-0 run and coming to within six points (80-86).
However, a long-range jumper by Lena Niang, followed by one from Gayle restored our lead back to double digits (80-90), with 90 seconds to go and effectively called game. Final Score was 91-82
Georgia Gayle led the Hatters with 26 points and eight rebounds, with Karly Murphy also putting up excellent numbers and recording a double-double of 21 points and 13 rebounds.
