Sheffield Hatters U14P v Lancashire Spinners
Sunday 5 November 2023
Hatters played Spinners 2 seasons ago as a young U14 team so a few of the players have been up against them. It would be a great of test to see how they have progressed as Spinners have historically been strong club over all age groups.
From the tip, it was clear Spinners, on their home court, were going to be reasonably opponents. Looking like it was a pre arranged coaching agreement, there was no full court press, which has been a strong Hatters approach this season, but even so, Hatters strong defensive plays and strong post play was the difference at the first quarter with Hatters leading 15-19.
Hatters started the second quarter strong, and even with 2 key forwards missing, played good hustle basketball to extend the lead to 23-35 at half time.
The Hatters team were able to play a 5 on 5 off strategy most of the 2nd & 3rd quarters without diminishing the strength of the team showing great depth of the bench. The effect on the Spinners was that they tired & Hatters energy held them to 5 points in the 3rd quarter, giving them a 28-50 point lead.
Although Spinners kept their heads up and played some good basketball, Hatters, even though they had a strong lead, kept the pressure on right till the final buzzer, winning 73-36. Another good away win for the Hatters who seem to be getting stronger with every game.ππ»π
