As the season nears the end today we lay to rest Betty Codona OBE the founder and “Mother” of all the Sheffield Hatters over 60 years. This week she has already been honoured with the change of name to the Molten Coach of the Year Award to Molten Betty Codona Coach of the Year Award. There is a Memorial to which all are welcome at 5.30pm today at the OEC in Sheffield. It is such a sad day for all her family and for her much larger basketball family. At the same time we will have a good time remembering all her achievements and the many many happy times we have shared.
Betty’s legacy lives on and tomorrow (Saturday) her family will be involved in the 3 games which take place. At 12 noon the WBBL play their last league game of the season at All Saints v Gloucester City Queens. Please note the change of time. At the same time the U18s travel to play their 1/4 final playoff game v Solent Kestrels.
The change of time to the WBBL game enables those who wish to to travel across to Manchester to watch Hatters last game of the day – The Final of the WNBL Division 2. Hatters Div 2 play Manchester Mystics at 3.30pm. Sarah Cooney who plays for Hatters was named Div 2 Player of the Year. Congratulations to her and to the whole team on making the final.
Good Luck and safe travels to all.
